What is Truth?

WHAT
IS
TRUTH_

Truth is a matter of perspective; my truth is based in large part on my own life experiences and beliefs;  even though my statements may be factual, the truths I tell may  differ from your own, as each individual sees things in a different light.  Who we are colors our perceptions.

That's why our democracy was designed to include freedom of speech
: our founding fathers believed that a free flow of ideas would allow an informed electorate to make the correct decisions about important issues.

Today, however, that free flow of ideas is being
impeded; media giants control
the reporting on radio
and television news; in addition to the quest for higher ratings and money, big corporate owners advance their own political agendas by reporting some of the facts, but not
all of them, by ignoring or glazing over topics which we the people need to understand in order to be responsible citizens, and by diverting our attention from the real issues.

There are two sides to every story;  indeed, there are often more than two sides.  By understanding differing
perspectives, by considering sources
of information and the motives behind them,  by learning how medias work
both for us and against us,  and by increasing our I.Q.
(information quotient), we the people can discover our
own truths.

The Truth in America Project will strive to bring you many different perspectives on the major issues of our times.  What's the real truth_  You decide.
